‘Gearing Up 4 Gorillas’ (G4G) is the only UK charity that focuses 100% on the conservation of the mountain gorilla in Virunga National Park, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). G4G provides equipment and funding to the Park to support the rangers whose job it is to protect the gorillas.
G4G is.. focused on the conservation of mountain gorillas:
There are 200-250 mountain gorillas living in Virunga National Park which is at least a quarter of the world population. Classed as ‘critically endangered’, the total population in DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda, is estimated to be in the order of 800+. Whilst mountain gorillas face threats wherever they live, those facing the population in DRC are intense and ongoing.
G4G is.. dedicated to supporting the rangers of Virunga National Park:
G4G focuses on support for the dedicated rangers of Virunga National Park, who put their lives on the line to protect mountain gorillas. Over 150 rangers have been killed in the line of duty in the last 15 years. G4G sends funding for specific projects to enable them to carry out their work effectively and safely. Consistent, ongoing support sends them a message that they are not forgotten in their daily work.
G4G is.. working to raising awareness of the threats to mountain gorillas:
The amazing life of the mountain gorillas of Virunga and their ranger protectors is told through fund raising events, talks to schools, clubs and attending shows.
G4G is.. run by a team of committed volunteers in the south of England:
G4G trustees are all volunteers and are devoted to raising funds and donations of equipment. Whilst the mountain gorillas may be many miles away, G4G has proven that practical assistance can be directed to where it matters – to the rangers at the sharp end.
Join us in providing funding and equipment that makes a real difference to the future of the mountain gorilla.
